I’m proud to say I’m totally a member of the Fussy Cutters Club. I’ve read the book, and I’ve got the quilt to prove it! And brace for it – you’re about to see a whole lot of photographic proof.
At first when I looked outside and saw it was all overcast and a bit gloomy, I thought it probably wasn’t a great day for photos to show off this pretty rainbow. But then I realised it’s actually the perfect weather! The rainbow gets to speak for itself! (And seriously – look at those little shoes. My quilt helper just melts my heart!).
Now you likely know that Angie and I share a mad love for rainbows – and this is evident on every page of her book. I love Angie’s bold use of colour and how she mixes them together – add in the element of fussy cutting and it’s basically quilty genius on a page.
I was so excited to have a reason to make this quilt (like I really need a reason for a rainbow… imagine the arm twisting that happened there!) to share on the blog hop for The Fussy Cutter’s Club. I think the best part is diving into your stash and digging out those prints that you find difficult to use in usual projects. Angie’s book is all about that – making the best use of your stash instead of letting it linger waiting for the “right” project.
I used the same layout as Angie’s Rainbow I-Spy quilt in her book. Funnily enough, I actually ended up using some of the same fussy cut prints in mine too. We clearly have excellent fabric stashes. I did end up adding in a few more pink squares. I couldn’t possibly imagine why I have so much pink in my stash, could you?
I feel like everyone needs a quilt helper in their lives. This one I have is the perfect height for holding quilts, and reasonably priced at just $1-$2 a session plus time to play in the sand. Fair request, really.
I loved that while we were taking photos of the quilt, my Miss 7 kept pointing out squares and exclaiming “A unicorn!!” “Mum, there’s Star Wars on this quilt!” “There’s blocks of everything!”. Yes there is, kid, yes there is.
I’m keeping this quilt tucked away ready to be gifted to just the right person who will love that factor just as much. I may have to hide it from my daughter (she does already have eleventy billion quilts, don’t feel bad for her).
Go on, telling me you’re not already thinking about what fabrics in your stash would be perfect for a quilt like this. It’s a bit hard to resist isn’t it?
While this is the first project I’ve made from The Fussy Cutters Club, it won’t be the last. There are so many great ideas and projects that get you itching to start fussy cutting like a maniac. Some of my fabric may or may not already be looking a little swiss-cheesy. But I’m okay with that, cos the leftover scraps are perfect for foundation piecing. Win Win!
In addition to projects, Angie’s included a whole bunch of technical knowledge about fussy cutting. How to approach it, what fabrics you can use, and how to just do it. If this book isn’t already gracing your bookshelf, or your cutting table where you can admire it and pet it and flick through the pages for inspiration, you might want to do something about that.
Also now is a great time to head over to fussycuttersclub.com and order a bundle deal. It includes a fussy cutters manifesto (every quilter needs this on their wall), as well as the awesome book plus an exclusive enamel pin. Get thee hence and ordering, my friend!
In case you’re tired of seeing all my photos for this project, you should hop on through the rest of the book tour and see what everyone else has made!
