2023 RBD Block Challenge

New year - new block challenge happening over at Riley Blake Designs! I joined in last year and I'm super excited to be a part of it once again for 2023!

16 designers have each shared a 10" block pattern that will be released throughout the first half of the year. These blocks will combine together into a gorgeous quilt. The layout is a mystery but you're sure to love it!

So without further ado - here's my little contribution! Meet Splice!

Those who know my patterns know that I'm usually all about the foundation paper pieced patterns. But not this one! This is traditionally pieced and it's such a quick and fun sew. I've always loved X-blocks and I love an opportunity to add a bit of fussycutting in.

I used prints from my collection Imagine to create the rainbow - and for those fussycut dragonflies. The background is my Rainbow Scatter print from the first Hush Hush collaboration.

But just in case you're not a huge rainbow fan, here's the Splice looks in a more subdued combo ;) I used prints from the Blossom basic (by Christopher Thompson) for this on a plain white Confetti Cottons solid background.

You can pop over to the Riley Blake Designs website to get all of the details on this fun Block Challenge - including the blocks released so far, fabric requirements, and alllll the details. Here's a quick overview of the schedule below. But make sure to head to the RBD website for the full details, and to grab each week's pattern instructions.

Make sure to share your block on Instagram using the hashtag so you can join in all the fun! #rbdblockchallenge

You can also find a step by step tutorial by the fabulous Cindy Cloward - there's one for each block on the RBD Youtube channel :) .

Look forward to seeing your Splice blocks!
