Falling for Autumn: Projects to get you sewing
Whether you call this season Autumn or Fall, it’s a beautiful time of year. I’m firmly in the “Autumn” camp as an Australian, but I spent a few years living in the US and loved how Fall is embraced there.
I’ve created a number of patterns over the years that are inspired by the season. Whether you’re looking for autumn leaves, cute squirrels, mushrooms or a whole bunch of pumpkins, there’s a paper pieced pattern perfect for your next Autumn (or Fall!) themed project.
Ooh Squirrel
I love this little squirrel sitting amidst a fall of maple leaves. It’s perfect for using a range of colours and fabrics.
Autumn Dreams
This paper pieced pattern features a sleepy cat on a pumpkin. If you have a cat in your life, you know they’ll sleep in the most inconvenient places, so a pumpkin isn’t too far a stretch of the imagination!
Falling into Autumn Table Runner
If you’re looking for a project for your Fall or Thanksgiving décor, this table runner might be just the thing. Featuring a pumpkin, leaves, acorns and mushrooms it’s a fun project to make for the season.

Fall Favourites
Pumpkins, acorns, mushrooms, leaves – what says Fall more than this combination? This wreath style quilt pattern is perfect for a mini quilt, a pillow or a table topper.
Mushies
Sweet and simple, this pattern features a pair of mushies or mushrooms for those that aren’t Australian (we Aussies do love to abbreviate everything!).
Leaves in Bloom
You can find leaves in all shapes in this paper pieced pattern bundle. Make one for a cute coaster, use a few to create a border for your quilt, or simply piece them all together to create a lovely leafy quilt.
Little Leaves
This FPP pattern features four cute little leaves and stems to create a cute autumnal look.
Enchanted
Mushrooms! All shapes and sizes – and this little collection of mushies is graced with a butterfly. Or if you’re into making the Midnight Garden, this works well by changing up the colours to create a little moth.
Moonlit Stroll
This is a quilt pattern made with paper pieced patterns created in rows. It features a range of geometric trees, along with a sweet little moon. It’s perfect for using up scraps and ideal to create in autumnal colours.
Fairy Ring
Foundation paper piecing is perfect for creating little shapes like these small mushrooms. Repeat the motif and it creates a cute little ring of mushies.
Leaf Wreath
This wreath of leaves was inspired by the more traditional leaf quilt pattern, but made a little easier (and smaller) with foundation paper piecing.

Add a variety of leaf shapes in a wreath and you have the perfect paper pieced block to create a mini quilt or a pillow.
