Create!

I am very excited to introduce my first fabric line for Riley Blake Designs - Create - available in July 2020. While I would love to be showing you these prints and projects in person at Spring Quilt Market, circumstances are a little different this time around. But the excitement level is still pretty high here - so brace for a whole bunch of pictures coming your way. ;)

Full of rainbow, bright colours and geometric shapes, this collection is designed to encourage quilters and sewists to do what they love best - create!

The main print features a large scale geometric design in a full spectrum of colours. Perfect to use for a background print, a feature print or the ideal backing, this print is bold and bright.

With designs featuring diamonds, stars, hexies and flying geese, these prints are a perfect tone on tone addition to the stash. I love a good rainbow - and the more colours the better. The whole rainbow is represented here.

A natural addition to all the hexies - a geometric bee! This design was first conceived as a foundation pieced pattern, but fits perfectly into this collection. It adds an extra dimension for the fussy cutters amongst us. ;) The bee also makes a little feature on the selvedges.

You can check out the storyboard here.

For this quilt, I paired Confetti Cottons Black solid, with a variety of the Create prints. The geo bee print on white lent itself perfectly to be fussycut into the centre of the geometric star. The quilting is by the talented Leanne Harvey of Mount Vincent Quilts.

This quilt is great for using 5" stackers as each hexie measures 4". I chose to pair it with the Confetti Cottons White to allow the colours of Create to really stand out. Quilting is also by Leanne Harvey of Mount Vincent Quilts (because she's amazing!).

Now I trust you'll indulge me as I share a few more projects made with Create.

When I'm not designing FPP patterns or pulling rainbow fabrics out to play, I'm working as co-founder and Creative Director of the digital quilting magazine, Make Modern. The team has indulged me in sharing a quilt I've designed for the upcoming issue of Make Modern.

This little baby quilt is perfect for 2.5" strips and works up quickly for a punch of rainbow. You can find this pattern in Issue 35 of Make Modern

On a smaller scale, I've been sewing up a storm with Create. And loving every minute of it. I've made a few cushions and pincushions in both foundation pieced and patchwork patterns. So without further ado... let's talk cushions!

From left to right (back), we have the geometric sewing machine (pattern available in the Geometric Rainbow booklet), Bright Star - pattern by Patty Young and available as a free download on the Riley Blake website, Tumbleweed - pattern by Sedef Imer available at Down Grapevine Lane.

In the front row, another two patterns from the booklet. The Starry Rainbow is in the Geometric Rainbow booklet, and Dream is in the Written in the Stars booklet.

These three cushions are all foundation paper pieced - which is the perfect way to use up those precious scraps you can't bear to part with. Though Dream... the dream cushion is a little different. This one uses the Main Multi print from Create as the background. The geometric design lends itself perfectly to being cut up into a bunch of pieces and being sewn back together again.

Lastly, in this round of show and tell anyways, a couple of little pincushions that were perfect for sewing up some scraps.

The pincushion on the left is the deluxe pincushion by Heidi Staples of Fabric Mutt and available in her book Sew Organized for the Busy Girl. It's perfect to keep by the sewing machine - store your snips, pins, wonderclips - and just bring a little pop of colour to the table.

And the pincushion on the right is the ring pincushion - designed by Angie Wilson of Gnomeangel. The awesome thing about this pattern is the versatility. Available in the small 5" size like this (which is -perfect- for teeny tiny scraps), it also comes in a 15" size block - perfect for a cushion. Or join a few together for a dazzling quilt.

Whew! And with that, my friends, we conclude our show and tell for Create for today! ;) I feel incredibly excited to be working with Riley Blake Designs - and grateful for such an awesome team to be bringing this dream to life. Hope you enjoyed all that rainbow goodness - and more importantly I can't wait to see what you create!

Create is available in stores in July 2020, and August 2020 in Australia. Chat to your local quilt shop to order it in, or see your fabulous Riley Blake Designs rep. Because really, we could all use a little more rainbow in our lives. ;)
